Audio System Symptom Troubleshooting - Cassette player unit button illumination does not work

Cassette Player Unit button illumination does not work (With cassette player)


1.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

2.Turn the combination lighting switch to the parking light position.

3.Check the illumination of the cassette player unit button.

Are the button illuminated?


YES - Intermittent problem: the cassette player unit is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections at cassette player unit 14P connector.n


NO - Go to 4.


4.Check the illumination of the audio unit button.

Are the button illuminated?


YES - Go to 5.


NO - Go to audio unit button illumination does not work.n


5.Turn the combination light switch OFF.

6.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

7.Disconnect audio unit connector D (14P).

8.Disconnect cassette player unit 14P connector.

9.Check for continuity between audio unit connector D (14P) No. 8 and No. 12 terminals and cassette player unit 14P connector No. 8 and No. 12 terminals.

 

Is there continuity?


YES - Go to 9.


NO - Repair an open in the wire between the audio unit and the cassette player unit.n


10.Reconnect audio unit connector D (14P).

11.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

12.With the headlight switch still on, check for voltage between cassette player unit 14P connector No. 8 terminal and body ground.

 

Is there battery voltage?


YES - Check the connections at the cassette player unit 14P connector. If all connections are OK, replace the cassette player unit.n


NO - Replace the audio unit.n
