Sunroof Control Unit (Motor) Input Test

NOTE: If the sunroof works OK manually, but will not work in AUTO, or reverses frequently (obstacle detection), reset the sunroof control unit befor proceeding with the input test.

1.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

2.Remove the headliner.

3.Disconnect the 10P connector (A) from the sunroof control unit (B).

 

4.Inspect the connector and socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact.

  • If the terminals are bent, loose or corroded, repair them as necessary, and recheck the system.
  • If the terminals look OK, go to 5.

5.Reconnect the connector to the control unit, and make these input tests at the connector.

  • If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system.
  • If all the input tests prove OK, go to 6.

Cavity Wire Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if result is not obtained 
GRN Under all conditions Check for voltage to ground:
There should be battery voltage. 
  • Blown No. 24 (20 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box
  • An open in the wire
 
PUR Ignition switch ON (II) Check for voltage to ground:
There should be battery voltage. 
  • Blown No. 32 (20 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box
  • An open in the wire
 
10 BLK Under all conditions Check for voltage to ground:
There should be less than 1 V. 
  • Poor ground (G503)
  • An open in the wire
 
WHT Sunroof switch in AUTO OPEN or AUTO CLOSE position Check for voltage to ground at the No. 5 and No. 6 terminals:
There should be battery voltage. 
  • Faulty sunroof switch
  • An open in the wire
 
LT GRN Sunroof switch in TILT position Check for voltage to ground at the No. 5 and No. 7 terminals:
There should be battery voltage. 
  • Faulty sunroof switch
  • An open in the wire
 
YEL Sunroof switch in CLOSE position Check for voltage to ground at the No. 5 and No. 8 terminals:
There should be battery voltage. 
  • Faulty sunroof switch
  • An open in the wire
 
LT BLU Sunroof switch in OPEN position Check for voltage to ground at the No. 5 and No. 9 terminals:
There should be battery voltage. 
  • Faulty sunroof switch
  • An open in the wire
 


6.Check the ECM/PCM DTCs. If there is no DTC, jump the SCS line with the HDS, and disconnect the ECM/PCM connector A (44P) and the sunroof control unit/motor connector (10P).

7.Make these input tests at the connector.

  • If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system.
  • If all the input tests prove OK, the control unit must be faulty; replace the sunroof control unit/motor.
