Immobilizer-Keyless Control Unit Input Test

NOTE: Before performing the input test, check the No. 23 (10 A) fuse in the under-food fuse/relay box and No. 2 (15 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box.

1.Remove the driver's dashboard lower cover.

2.Remove the steering column covers.

3.Disconnect the 7P connector (A) from the immobilizer-keyless control unit with the connector still disconnected, make these input tests at the appropriate connector.

  • If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system.
  • If all the input tests prove OK (B).

4.Inspect the connector and socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact.

  • If the terminals are bent, loose or corroded, repair them as necessary, and recheck the system.
  • If the terminals look OK, go to 5.

5.With the connector still disconnected, make these input tests at the appropriate connector.

  • If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system.
  • If all the input tests prove OK, go to 6.

Cavity Wire Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if result is not obtained
WHT Under all conditions Check for voltage between immobilizer-keyless control unit 7P connector No. 1 terminal and body ground:
There should be battery voltage.
  • Blown No. 23 (10 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box
  • An open in the wire

YEL Ignition switch ON (II) Check for voltage to ground:
There should be battery voltage.
  • Blown No. 2 (15 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box
  • An open in the wire

6.Reconnect the connectors to the under-dash fuse/relay box, and make these input tests at the connectors.

  • If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system.
  • If all the input tests prove OK, the MICU must be faulty; replace the under-dash fuse/relay box.

Cavity Wire Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if result is not obtained
BLK Under all conditions Check for voltage to ground:
There should be less than 0.5 V.
  • Poor ground (G102)
  • An open in the wire

PNK Ignition key inserted into the ignition switch Check for voltage to ground:
There should be less than 0.5 V.
  • Poor ground (G504)
  • Faulty ignition key switch
  • An open in the wire
