Special Tools Required
Engine support hanger ( AAR-T1256-J00)
1. | Make sure you have the customer‘s radio (and navigation) anti-theft codes, and write down the radio presets. |
2. | Remove the windshield wiper arms. |
3. | Remove the cowl cover and under-cowl panel. |
4. | Remove the front bulkhead cover. |

6. | Remove the battery hold-down bracket, and remove the battery and battery tray. |
7. | Remove the air intake duct and air cleaner housing. |
8. | Remove the battery base and resonator. |
9. | Raise the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported. |
10. | Remove the splash shield. |
11. | Remove the drain plug (A), and drain the automatic transmission fluid (ATF).
12. | Reinstall the drain plug with a new sealing washer (B). |
13. | Fix the hood in the vertical position. |
14. | Remove the harness cover from its bracket.
15. | Disconnect the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve A connector and 2nd clutch transmission fluid pressure switch connector (B), and remove the harness clamps (C) from the clamp brackets (D).
16. | Disconnect the transmission range switch connector (A), and remove the connector from its bracket (B).
17. | Disconnect the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connector (C) and input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor connector (D), and remove the harness clamp (E) from the clamp bracket (F). |
18. | Disconnect the 3rd clutch transmission fluid pressure switch connector.
19. | Disconnect the shift solenoid harness connector (A), A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve B connector, and solenoid valve C connector, then remove the harness clamps (D) from the clamp brackets (E).
20. | Disconnect the ATF cooler hoses (A) from the ATF lines (B). Turn the end of the ATF cooler hoses up to prevent ATF from flowing out, then plug the hoses and lines.
21. | Remove the bolt securing the harness clamp bracket (A) from the transmission hanger (B).
22. | Remove the water hose from its clamp.
23. | Remove the air cleaner housing mounting bracket (A).
24. | Install the hanger plate (B) on the stud nut (C) with 8 x 1.25 - 16 mm bolt (D). Use only the 8 x 1.25 mm and 16 mm in length of the threaded bolt. If you use other than 16 mm threaded-length bolt, it may damage the engine cylinder head. |
25. | Install the engine support hanger (AAR-T1256-J00) to the vehicle, and attach the hook (A) to the hanger plate chain (B). Tighten the wing nut (C) by hand, and lift and support the engine.
26. | Remove the nuts and bolt securing the lower arm and ball joint, and separate the lower arms from the ball joints.
27. | Remove both body mount brackets.
28. | Remove the steering gearbox bracket mounting bolts. NOTE: 28 thru 31 describe gaerbox removal for the RHD model; LHD model is symmetrical.
29. | Remove the steering gearbox mounting bolt (A), stiffener mounting bolt (B), and stiffener (C).
30. | Remove the steering gearbox mounting bolt (A), stiffener mounting bolt (B), and stiffener (C).
31. | Remove the bolt securing the harness clamp bracket.
32. | Remove the ATF cooler hose from the ATF cooler.
33. | Remove the exhaust pipe mounting rubber.
34. | Remove the lower torque rod bolt.
35. | Make the appropriate lines (A) on the front subframe (B) that line up with the edge (C) of the body.
36. | Support the front subframe with a wood piece and a jack.
37. | Remove the four bolts securing the front subframe, and lower the subframe.
38. | Hang the steering gearbox to the body with a rope. |
39. | Remove the driveshafts from the differential and intermediate shaft. Coat all precision machined surfaces with clean engine oil, then put plastic bags over driveshaft ends.
40. | Remove the three bolts securing the shift cable holder (A), then remove the shift cable cover (B)
41. | Pry up the lock tab of the lock washer (C), and remove the lock bolt (D) and lock washer, then separate the shift cable (E) from the control shaft (F). Do not bend the shift cable excessively. |
42. | Remove the torque converter cover (A), and remove the drive plate bolts (B) (8) while rotating the crankshaft pulley.
43. | Remove the intermediate shaft cover (A).
44. | Remove the intermediate shaft (B). Coat all precision finished surfaces with clean engine oil, then tie the plastic bags over the intermediate shaft ends. |
45. | Remove the upper transmission housing mounting bolts.
46. | Remove the transmission mount bracket bolts.
47. | Remove the front transmission housing mounting bolts.
