Engine Installation

Special Tools Required

1.Install the accessory brackets and tighten their bolts to the specified torques.

 

2.Position the engine/transmission assembly under the vehicle. Attach the special tools to the engine, then lift the engine into position in the vehicle.

NOTE: Reinstall the mounting bolts/support nuts in the sequence given in the following steps. Failure to follow this sequence may cause excessive noise and vibration, and reduce engine mount life.

 

3.Support the front subframe with the wood piece and a jack, and lift it up to the body.

4.Loosely install the new subframe mounting bolts.

 

5.Align all reference marks (A) on the front subframe with the body (B), then tighten the bolts on the front subframe to the specified torque.

 

6.Remove the jack and front subframe adapter.

7.Tighten the new mid-stiffener mounting bolts on both sides.

 

8.Loosely tighten the new front mount mounting bolt.

 

9.Install the lower torque rod, then loosely tighten the new lower torque rod mounting bolts.

A/T 

10.Make sure the hoist brackets are positioned properly. Lower the vehicle on the hoist.

11.Support the transmission with a jack and wood block under the transmission (A/T).

12.Disconnect the special tools from the engine/ transmission assembly.

13.Remove the transmission hanger bracket (P/N 21232-RCT-A00) (A/T).

 

14.Install the transmission mount bracket (A), then install the ground cable (B) (A/T).

 

15.Remove the transmission mount, then tighten the transmission mount stiffener mounting bolt (A) and the new transmission mount mounting bolts (B)
(A/T).

 

16.Loosely tighten the new bolt and nuts (C) (A/T).

17.Loosen the upper torque rod mounting bolt (A).

 

18.Tighten the new side engine mount bracket mounting bolt and nut.

 

19.Tighten the new transmission mounting bolt and nuts (M/T).

 

20.Tighten the transmission mounting bolt and nuts
(A/T).

 

21.Raise the vehicle on the hoist to full height.

22.Tighten the lower torque rod mounting bolts.

 

23.Lower the vehicle on the hoist.

24.Tighten the upper torque rod mounting bolt.

 

25.Raise the vehicle on the hoist to full height.

26.Tighten the front mount mounting bolt.

 

27.Install the A/C compressor (A), then connect the
A/C compressor clutch connector (B).

 

28.Install the stiffener (A), then tighten the steering gearbox mounting bolt (B) and stiffener mounting bolt (C).

 

29.Install the harness clamp (D) to the subframe.

30.Install the steering gearbox bracket (A).

 

31.Install the stiffener (B), then tighten the steering gearbox mounting bolt (C) and stiffener mounting bolt (D).

32.Install the shift cable (A/T).

33.Install a new set ring on the end of each driveshaft, then install the driveshafts. Make sure each ring
‘‘clicks'' into place in the differential and intermediate shaft.

34.Connect the lower arms to the knuckles.

35.Connect the stabilizer links.

36.Install the three way catalytic converter (TWC) (A). Use new gaskets (B) and new self locking nuts (C).

 

37.Connect the air fuel ratio (A/F) sensor connector (D).

38.Connect the secondary heated oxygen sensor (secondary HO2S) connector (E), then install the grommet (F).

39.Install the splash shield.

 

40.Lower the vehicle on the hoist.

41.Install the heater hoses.

 

42.Install the automatic transmission fluid (ATF) cooler hoses (A) to the transmission, and secure the hoses with the clips (B).

 

43.Install the radiator.

44.Install the idler pulley base.

45.Install the drive belt.

46.Install the air cleaner housing bracket (M/T).

 

47.Install the shift cable (M/T).

48.Install the clutch slave cylinder, and clutch line bracket mounting bolt (M/T).

49.Connect the fuel feed hose, then install the quick-connect fitting cover (A).

 

50.Install the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister hose (A) and brake booster vacuum hose (B).

 

51.Install the engine control module (ECM)/powertrain control module (PCM) bracket (A), then install the under-hood fuse/relay box (B) to the bracket.

 

52.Connect the engine control module (ECM)/ powertrain control module (PCM) connectors (A) and engine wire harness connector (B).

 

53.Install the harness clamps (C).

54.Install the ECM/PCM (A), then install the ECM/PCM cover (B).

 

55.Install the battery cables (A) to the under-hood
fuse/relay box.

 

56.Install the harness clamp (B).

57.Install the resonator (A).

 

58.Connect the connector (B), and install the harness clamp (C).

59.Install the under cowl-panel.

60.Install the air cleaner housing.

61.Install the front wheels.

62.Install the battery. Clean the battery posts and cable terminals with sandpaper, then assemble them, and apply grease to prevent corrosion.

63.Move the shift lever to each gear, and verify that the A/T gear position indicator follows the transmission range switch (A/T).

64.Check that the transmission shifts into gear smoothly (M/T).

65.Inspect for fuel leaks: Turn the ignition switch ON (II) (do not operate the starter ) so the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds and pressurizes the fuel line. Repeat this operation two or three times, then check for fuel leakage at any point in the fuel line.

66.Refill the engine with engine oil.

67.Refill the transmission with fluid:


68.Refill the radiator with engine coolant, and bleed air from the cooling system with the heater valve open.

69.Do the ECM/PCM reset procedure.

70.Do the crankshaft position (CKP) pattern clear/ CKP pattern learn procedure.

71.Inspect the idle speed.

72.Inspect the ignition timing.

73.Check the wheel alignment.

74.Do the power window control unit reset procedure.

75.Set the clock.

76.Enter the anti-theft code for the radio or the navigation system, then enter the customer's audio presets.
