ATF Temperature Sensor Test and Replacement

.Lift the vehicle up on a hoist, or apply the parking brake, block the rear wheels, and raise the front of the vehicle. Make sure it is securely supported.

.Remove the splash shield.

.Remove the drain plug (A), and drain the automatic transmission fluid (ATF).

.Reinstall the drain plug with a new sealing washer (B).

.Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then disconnect the positive cable.

.Remove the battery hold-down bracket, and remove the battery and battery tray.

.Remove the air intake duct and air cleaner housing.

.Remove the battery base and resonator.

.Remove the shift solenoid valve cover (A), dowel pins (B), and gasket (C).

.Disconnect the shift solenoid harness connector, and remove it from the transmission housing.

.Measure ATF temperature sensor resistance between shift solenoid harness connector terminals No. 6 and No. 7.

Standard: 50 W-25 kW

.If the resistance is out of standard, replace the ATF temperature sensor and solenoid harness; go to 13. The ATF temperature sensor is not available separately from the solenoid harness. If the resistance is within the standard, install the shift solenoid harness connector with the new O-ring in the transmission housing, then go to 17.

.Disconnect the connectors from shift solenoid valves, and replace the ATF temperature sensor and solenoid harness.

.Install the new O-ring (F) on the new shift solenoid harness connector (G), and install the connector in the transmission housing.

.Connect YEL, WHT, WHT harness terminal to shift solenoid valve D. The ATF temperature sensor is installed in the connector.

.Connect BLU harness terminal to shift solenoid valve A, ORN harness terminal to shift solenoid valve B, GRN harness terminal to shift solenoid valve C, and RED harness terminal to shift solenoid valve E.

.Install the shift solenoid valve cover, dowel pins, and a new gasket.

.Check the connector for rust, dirt, or oil, then connect the connector securely.

.Secure the ATF cooler inlet line with the bolts, and install the harness clamp on the ATF cooler inlet line bracket.

.Refill the transmission with ATF.

.Install the battery base and resonator.

.Install the air cleaner housing and air intake duct.

.Install the battery tray and battery, then secure the battery with its hold-down bracket.

.Connect the battery terminals, and apply grease around the battery terminals.

.Install the splash shield.

.Do the power window control unit reset procedure.
